Cons:

  • Ashwagandha can have sedative effects for some people, which could lead to drowsiness and difficulty focusing during the day.
  • Some people experience mild stomach upset when they take ashwagandha on an empty stomach. If you are one of those people, you don’t want to take ashwagandha when you first wake up. You may want to wait until after breakfast or another meal.
  • If taken with certain medications, ashwagandha can interfere with their effectiveness. So you need to check with your healthcare provider before taking ashwagandha with your morning medicines.

Pros:

In much of the research with ashwagandha, individuals took ashwagandha supplements two times per day. So you might want to take one dose in the morning or during the day and another dose at night.
