Air Fryer Flatbread Pizza Ingredients & Mental Health Benefits
Tomatoes
Tomatoes are a good source of fiber, potassium, and vitamins A and C.
They are also an excellent source of lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant. And antioxidants help lower inflammation that can lead to feelings of depression and anxiety.
Lycopene is what gives tomatoes their red color. Studies have shown that lycopene may also help protect against certain types of cancer, heart disease, and stroke.
One way to get the most lycopene from tomatoes is to cook them. Lycopene is more readily available from cooked tomatoes than raw tomatoes.
Mushrooms
There are many mental health benefits of mushrooms. For one, they are a great source of vitamin D. Low vitamin D levels are linked with depression.
A 2020 study of individuals with mild-to-moderate depression showed that supplementing with vitamin D for 8 weeks significantly improved the severity of their depression.
Getting vitamin D from your food, such as mushrooms, is also a great way to meet your needs.
Mushrooms are also a good source of B vitamins, which are crucial for mood stability. Additionally, mushrooms are high in antioxidants that can decrease inflammation in your body.
Basil leaves & Italian seasoning
Basil leaves and even dried herbs, such as Italian seasoning, are leafy greens known for their positive effects on mental health.
They contain folate, which is necessary for the production of serotonin and dopamine. Low levels of folate can lead to low mood, less energy, and more worry.
They also contain magnesium, which is important for regulating mood and sleep. And, once again, leafy greens are high in antioxidants to fight against free radicals and lower inflammation.
Even the aroma of basil can be calming and uplifting and help ease stress and anxiety.
Overall, adding basil leaves and other leafy greens to your diet can help to improve your mental well-being and keep your brain healthy and functioning at its best.
How to Make Air Fryer Naan Pizza
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F while you gather your ingredients.

Spread marinara sauce on the 2 slices of naan bread, if desired. Layer with tomato slices, mozzarella slices, mushroom, and onion slices. Sprinkle evenly with Italian seasoning. Don’t put the basil pieces on yet or the air fryer fan will blow them off. I learned that the hard way after taking this picture!

Cook for around 5 minutes or to desired doneness. Press the basil pieces into the cheese after 4 minutes of cook time (they only have to cook for around 1 minute). Remove the pizza from the air fryer, slice, and enjoy!

Air Fryer Flatbread Pizza Tips
- Don’t put the basil pieces on the flatbread pizza before cooking or the air fryer fan will blow them off. Wait until the cheese is melted then press the basil pieces into the cheese.
- If you don’t like the taste of basil, feel free to use fresh spinach, kale, oregano, arugula, or any leafy green that you like.
- This naan pizza recipe is very versatile. You can swap out pita bread for naan bread and swap in and out any toppings. If you want to get the most mental health benefits, use as many fruits and veggies as you can and avoid processed meats!
- Cowboy Caviar is a perfect side dish with tortilla chips.
